Droste Effect

Flower-droste

The image was made of a backlight Rose of Sharon flower just after a brief shower. The photo was gently post processed in LightRoom 3.

The adjusted photo was edited in Photoshop CS5 using the new Adobe Pixel Bender plug-in and the Droste filter.

The Droste effect is a recursive picture within a picture – repeating the image element multiple times inside each other. The effect first used by an Italian artist of religious picture in the 12th century. The effect has been used countless times to the present.
