Well, we are back in Florida and I am into the swing of things š
One of the most interesting events for me was the opportunity to give a workshop at the Delray Camera Club last Wednesday. They tried something a bit different: four concurrent sessions (repeated twice) on various photo subjects. Yours truly was asked to share tips for better flower and bird photography. It was a good idea and I got quite a lot of positive feedback.
The image here is one of those I used. It is, of course, an osprey in a typical pose. This guy was taken on Blue Cypress Lake (Yew Haw Junction – near Orlando). We went out on a pontoon boat to a wild area to capture these magnificent birds.
This image was used to illustrate a bird typical behavior and patience.Ā I waited until the bird turned his head toward me so that he was looking directly down the barrel of my Canon 300 L IS f4 with a 1.4 extender (1/2500, f5.6, ISO 500, 420mm).Ā Most important, I think – his eyes are in sharp focus.
Ospreys in late spring (this photo was taken last May 12) are nesting and raising their young. This mature adult is high above the water, watching for fish and protecting his territory. He has got long, sharp and narrow talons for catching and holding on to his prey. Take a look at some of my other osprey images (including those of immature birds in their nest) by clicking on the bird photo gallery link and scrolling down to the Middleton’s Fish Camp Osprey gallery.
